[Eng] Art of Listen, Respect & Understand

It is a wonderful world indeed. There are a lot of people from different background. We come from various clusters of age, sex, language, race, culture, religion, country, education level, socioeconomic status etc.. In other words, this diversity teaches us rules of listening, respect and understanding.

I am totally an idiot if neglecting these most important key in gaining myself knowledge or even as an human being. So, I'm writing this one to make myself clear.

Listen Carefully

We may hear something, but to differentiate noises, music and language it comes with the art of listening. As basic as it gets, one does not communicate without listening. Even if you would argue people talks with sign language could make a conversation, than, who am I to say it wrong. True that, because it is also a fact. A fact that people who could not hear, were amplified their other 4 senses.

The first sense bestowed upon us by God, is the sense of hearing. Started when we were from inside of our mother's womb, this ability has been proved to give reaction to the fetus behavior. Later on our life depend on this ability too be complete in function. Science support this two facts; as the base of child milestone coincides with the hearing ability. One who could not hear, thus not listen, hence did not understand. Which then, they have to listen with their remaining senses to comprehend.

Therefore pay attention when hearing something. Any nice, bad or weird sound came through our eardrums, it is the auditory center will then translate the wave as a pattern that our brain could understand. If this center does not function or suppressed (the brain shuts or ignore this function temporarily to focus their currents to other centers), sound would have no proper meaning. Reason why people could make conversation with each other or read books in a very loud places, when asked where the other sounds came from, they'll just say they heard noises or even nothing at all.

Sure when it comes to gain knowledge, we would take 75% accounted for sight. Second most is 13% from listening, and the rest 6% touch, 3% taste, 3% smell. In a good lecture or discussion, how many could really understand when they have plugs in their ears? Non, excepts if were to prepare a good visual aid along side of the speech.

Pay Respect

Living within a community, leads us to know differences of each others. That is the beauty of human nature. Nature of respecting the human rights. This totally includes other people besides of our own. Yes, we should respect our elders, teachers & superiors. Also, respect would not be attained easier by force. That would make things worse.

In order for other people to respect yourself, one should too respect others in advance. Plus, to gain more respect, one must have special qualities. Most of them are definitely the one other people would seek first in ourselves. Its includes the followings:
  1. Listen More & Talk Less
  2. Appreciate, Open Minded & Non-judgmental
  3. Honest & Outspoken
  4. Composure, Humble & Self-respect
  5. Having Principle above Money & Power
  6. Empathy & Sympathy
I would not explain in details each one of them, because we should have been familiarize by all of these beforehand by experience. Even though if one doesn't have it yet, he or she should learn to do so. Importantly enough, during conversing with other people, one should always avoid from doing the following:
  1. Never stereotyping by being a racist or having prejudice.
  2. Avoid cultural biases
  3. Avoid sexist views (this cuts both ways!)
  4. Don't insult or make fun of people
  5. Don't speak over the person
  6. Don't speak behind a person's back
  7. Don't follow the crowd, simply because it seems easier.
  8. Don't incite the crowd with negative energy
Understand

When people delivering speech, never cuts or talk simultaneously with them. Please, never! This is one reason to show respects and also to get a very good understanding the view and full meaning of the context provided. We gave time for them to finish and allowing too ourselves as the listener takes our time sorting between the lines.

We are learning to be a better citizen of a highly civil & well-mannered society. We learn from our morally cultural backgrounds. Just in case, if everyone around us are not informed about how to be polite, then why should we go down to their level. This doesn't mean that we should belittle their position. We, could set an example and at the same time, understand the reason of difference between one another.

People have reasons to behave in a manner while some don't give a damn to care even their own action. Some might responses as an instinct. The difference is either humane or animalistic.
